Prayer for the Sick: Jesus Loves You

By Biynah | July 31, 2008

Sometimes when we are down and it seems there is nobody to console us, comforting words from religious upbringing will surface as a kind of healing prayer. The words from one of the first hymns I learned as a child have sustained me through many a sad time:

Jesus loves me. This I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong.
They are weak, but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me. (x3)
The Bible tells me so.

Although the lyrics of the hymn do not appear as Bible scripture, the following verses assure us that the words have true meaning.

John 3:16 [show] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (ESV)

 |  John 10:15 [show] just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. (ESV)

 |  John 15:13 [show] Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (ESV)

Jesus paid the ultimate price to liberate us from sickness and bondage. If you are in need of prayer yourself, or in a position to pray for someone else, this is useful to recall.
